Update… the Daytona was sold on May, 2011. I will keep this site up for a while just to remind me of the project I had for so many years.
Built on a Chevy Corvette chassis & engine, this replica of the original 365 Daytona Spider is a beautiful and sexy reproduction on what has been called the “#2” greatest Ferrari of all time.
If you love the body styling of this car and can appreciate the cost effectiveness of having it built on a Chevrolet Corvette chassis and Chevy small block 350 V8, then this is the most affordable way to own one of these extremely rare cars. It is fast, fun to drive and gets a ton of looks on the road. It has been sitting in my garage for 22 years now and I have driven it only a few miles since the conversion was done. This car was just recently gone through and had all fluids flushed from the gas to the coolant to the brakes, transmission and differential. All new calipers have been put on all 4 disc rotors, new brake pads, a new master cylinder, new fuel lines, on and on. It runs well and is a kick to drive. Every time I have taken it out, someone stops me on the street to ask about it. It’s a real head turner.
As you can see by the link at the bottom of this page, the original Daytona Spider built for the Miami Vice television series is for sale right now for $140,000. It has the spoke wheels and older Corvette seats. My Daytona is around 98% finished, is in many ways a nicer machine the one used in the TV show, and can be had for a fraction of the price they are asking. I have not set a firm price and am open for offers. I am not looking for a trade, but it is not out of the question. For reference, I am well over $50k into this project, most of it in 1980s dollars, and not including hundreds of hours of time and effort.
A little history:
In 2004, the Daytona was voted top sports car of the 1970s by Sports Car International magazine. Similarly, Motor Trend Classic named the 365 GTB/4 and GTS/4 as number two in their list of the ten “Greatest Ferraris of all time”.
Built by Tom McBurnie in Santee, California (just outside of San Diego), this car is one of the nicest reproductions of the 365 ever made. Tom also built the original Daytona Spyder for the Miami Vice series on TV. This is the EXACT same kit as the one used on Miami Vice. If you would like to buy that one, go take a look at the price for it HERE.
